With international borders still closed, now is the perfect time to embark on a fantastic Malaysian road trip, which can begin right outside your door. If you don't want to drive as far and want to start closer to the end, simply fly to your starting point on one of Malaysia Airlines' newly reinstated domestic flights and rent a car from there.

1. Kuala Lumpur To Penang

Before leaving KL, pay a visit to the astonished Istana Negara, Malaysia's national palace, which can have a commanding view of the Klang River. Although You are not allowed to enter, but you are always welcome to take photographs near the main entrance.


After had fun in KL, Kuala Selangor will be your next station, Before entering your destination, drive through Taiping, the world's top 3 sustainable city. Bukit Larut, also known as Maxwell Hill, you can hike to stretch your legs before entering in Penang. Bukit Larut, at 1,250 m, it was quite high, but the phytoncine and sparse crowds make it an ideal place to have a climb.


Back to the highway and make a stop in George Town to explore the heritage sites and taste the street food that Penang's capital is famous for. The Char Keow Tew in Penang is a must to try. After having your meal, make your time to visit Malaysia's first and also largest avian-focused park-Butterworth Bird Park.

2. Petaling Jaya to Ipoh to Langkawi


Total distance: 494km


It takes two hours to drive from Petaling Jaya to Ipoh, if you want to have a rest, you can have a short stay at Fraser's hill or have overnight diversions to the Cameron Highlands for some fresh air and strawberries.


After that, you may stop in Rawang, about 30 minutes on the AH2/E1, from Petaling Jaya, to enjoy the spectacular Taman Eko Rimba Kanching Waterfalls, to start your journey. There are seven tiers to the waterfall, and each has a pond for swimming.


After a 30 minutes drive, you'll arrive at the Selangor Fruit Valley, where is a place that suitable for a family trip. You and your family can have an experience on being farmer a day.


From Ipoh to the Kuala Perlis ferry terminal, just make your way to north, where you can park your car or take it to the island via a car ferry (operated by Langkawi Auto Express or Langkawi Ro-Ro Ferry Services). Around Padang Matsirat, it is a good chance to get on a bike or take a mangrove cruise to admire the tranquil coastal forests and the rice fields.

3. Kuala Lumpur to Pekan to Cherating

Total distance: 367km Not only in Malaysia, but throughout Asia, One of the most scenic highways is Federal Route 3. But, before you get on the highway, stop by Batu Caves, which are only take you 20 minutes from central KL. This limestone cave complex, accessible via 272 rainbow-colored steps, There are Hindu temples with shrines and mysterious see-through paintings. A visit to some of the fascinating plants and animals that live in the caves is definitely worthwhile.

Take an overnight detour into the Genting Highlands if you have time. This sprawling hillside resort's hotels, shopping malls, theme parks, and casinos ensure nonstop entertainment. Take a hike up Gunung Nuang or visit Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm to pick (and eat) your own strawberries if natural attractions are more your thing.

The highway joins the coastline in Mersing, providing scenic views of the sea from the car window. You'll cross the Pahang River at Pekan, the Pahang Sultanate's royal seat, before continuing on to Kuantan via the Sultan Abu Bakar Bridge. The resort town of Cherating is an hour's drive from there.
